WILD BOAR HUNTING WITH A SPEAR

Killing a wild hog with a spear is not as easy as one may think.
Balance, careful footing, fast reflexes, and the ability to forcibly plunge the spear into
an attacking animal are the key elements needed for a successful kill with a spear.

Wild Boar Hunting * Special Report * Hog Boys

Hog Boys
by Paul
Phil

I went to Florida to see the inlaws and while we were driving we saw a sign for a guide service. Once we got back I searched online and made a booking for my friend and I.

We saw the big hog off in the distance and gave chase in the swamp buggy. it was an intense ride with the throttle open and rough terrain to boot. When we got closer we let out our catch dog and continued the pursuit. Once we got closer I hopped down and stuck mine with a spear but it wasn't that easy. We had a bulldog hound mix named Buck. Buck latched on and tied him up while I tried to stick him. The hog fought off Buck several times, it turned on the guide a couple times also. One stab to the lungs then a second to the heart ended the boar quick. Buck had been gored three times, but was fine after a few minutes of heavy bleeding. Buck still wanted to be in the action. Every time we saw another hog, Buck went ballistic and wanted in, but the guide and I both decided he had enough action for one day.

Now it was my friend Paul's turn to get a boar! We chased one hog into the brush and let our redbone hound PJ, go in after him. Once PJ had him bayed up it was a free for all! The hog was fighting PJ, then the guide called PJ off and my buddy Paul let a round of 00buck into his face and neck! The hog let out a blood curdling squeal and charged Paul! PJ got to the boar first and tied him up again. After a several minute brawl between the boar and PJ, Paul finally got another clear shot and put the boar down. Paul was out of rounds so I moved forward with the spear and handed it to him. Paul ended the hog with a quick stick in the heart.

We ended up getting two nice boars. I got a 185 pounder with a spear and Paul got a 130 pounder with a shotgun.

Wild Boar Hunting Report November 20, 2011

Here's a recent e-mail testimonial I received from the above wild boar hunting party:

The trip went great.  It was a lot of fun riding around in the swamp buggy, learning about the dogs, and sloshing through the swamps.  It made for a great experience.
I satisfied my primal urge for at least a few months after spearing this boar.
I plan on doing it again in the future. Hopefully with my sons next time.

Wild Boar Hunting Report June 10, 2011

Here's a recent e-mail testimonial I received from the above wild boar hunting party:

Wow!  What a great hunting trip!  Our guide was great, the weather was typical Florida, hot and sunny, we couldn't ask for a better experience.  I was a little skeptical of the hunt originally.  I thought there would be a pack of dogs that pretty much laid the boar down and all we had to do was stab it... I was SO wrong.  These dogs just found them for us, then we did the work.

It was one of the biggest rushes I've ever had... and I've been to some very sketch places.
Our group was out there for a bachelor party, and the groom got exactly what he wanted... 230lbs worth of boar running at him.  This hunt was awesome, if you're skeptical about it, don't be... you won't be disappointed.

Wild Boar Hunting Testimonial March 4, 2011

Wild boar hunters Dean Martin & Jon Gibson each bagged a wild boar with a spear & a knife during a morning of wild boar hunting with Ron's Guide Service on March 4, 2011. They hunted on private land in Glades county.

Here's a recent e-mail testimonial I received from the above wild boar hunting party:

STEADFAST ADRENALAN RUSH!!!
Breaking away from the dogs, the hog charged me. Piercing the hog with my spear, the spearhead broke off in the hog, the hog retreived to the bush. As I approached it again, it charged in a last attempt for its life. Once again I pierced the hog and held it off as it forced against the spear. As she weakened, I got a couple more stabs to finish her off.

My buddy Jon did the first hunt of the day. As the dogs held the hog at bay, Jon went in with nothing more than a hunting knife. Stabbing the hog several times, he took it down. Steadfast courage and skill with a blade.
